Iron & Wine/Calexico “Dead Man’s Will”

The unofficial Riggins boys theme. In Episode 108, Tim Riggins visits his absentee father, to his older brother Billy’s dismay; when he returns, the two scuffle on the floor amid crushed beer cans and open pizza boxes. Blows are thrown, heated words are exchanged. Later that night, when Tim returns, they sit down and share a beer while “Dead Man’s Will” plays. The song’s lyrics (“Give this stone / to my brother”) ring through the silence as they wordlessly pass back and forth a long-necked Budweiser olive branch. The song returns in the final season, when Billy and Tim scrap again in the Landing Strip parking lot, a nice touch that Richardson, who usually guards zealously against repeating herself, appreciates. “It’s where you are first getting introduced to and falling in love with their relationship,” she says. “I mean, how great is Billy Riggins? Obviously, Tim Riggins is awesome—everybody’s in love with him. But god, I love Billy.
